Los Roques is an archipelago of some three hundred and fifty tiny islands that lie within the arms of a protective coral atoll some eighty miles off the cost of north Venezuela. A seascape of exquisite natural beauty extending to 850 square kilometres, the islands were designated a marine National Park by the Venezuelan government as long ago as 1972, and remain to this day the largest and oldest Marine Reserve in the Caribbean.
